Dr. Govinda K.C. "The Movement Continues"

A happy Alisha Thapa, 7 years in her mother's lap; a patient of Prof. Dr. Govinda KC was one of the lucky persons to offer juice to the professor after he decided to break his 14 day long fast-onto-death.

Dr. Govinda K.C. Ends Fast

On Friday Dr. Govinda K.C. finally broke his 14 days long fast-onto-death after the bottom lines were fulfilled and there were highly credible evidences that there shall be no evasive wordplay of the official documents. A man was able to push back the monstrous union of the powerful mafia and the irresponsible political system that has been plaguing nearly each sector of the Nepalese society.

His struggle begun with the motive of cleansing the medical education sector and in a span of a few days his victory was seen more as an issue of national pride than problems regarding appointment of authority in an educational institute; and by the time this episode of his struggle ended his feat is now a beacon of hope for all those who wish the victory of good over evil.

His struggle was non-aligned. The mere fact that despite no major political parties officially supporting his move, thousands of general people took to the streets highlights the source of his true strength.  The people talked on social media about how his stand was correct and all national media endlessly covered his issue and spoke of how his struggle has sparked a new national revolution. In a country where nearly everyone is painted in certain partisan colours, the public support and the media focus on this issue points out to certain key shifts in the popular sentiments. So much so, the ‘historic’ first meeting of the Constituent Assembly elections was eclipsed by the halo of his selfless determination.

His struggle was non-violent, the man reminiscent of a modern day Mahatma Gandhi, and even apologetic to the troubles he himself did not start.  The saintly figure crossed all petty barriers, and rose above all who could only think of life as a continuous pursue of pleasures. By the time the struggle matured, the man and his mission were no more personal; his personality and his purpose were now the treasures of the humanity.

The Revolution Continues

As Dr. Govinda KC broke his fast, his statement was read out by a young doctor. Dr. KC declared that the movement would continue in a different form until there is a guarantee that the true spirit of the campaign is addressed.

And while the form of the revolution changes, it is now the responsibility of all those who believe in his ideals to join his cause and increase their participation in the movement. Considering the cause and the strength of the opposition, the fight for change is surely going to be long and lingering. The new phase of the movement will demand even more organized, even more inclusive, and more widespread efforts. Regarding the motivational side of the movement, the light of Prof. Dr. Govinda KC, the Selfless Revolutionary, will keep on inspiring.
