The Forgotten Sons and Daughters of Nepal

Lately there has been an upsurge in discourses and discussions in much of the developing world regarding the possibilities of harnessing the human capital of the expatriates and the non-residential nationals. In doing so, it is believed that since the individual has historical familial connections to the native country, should opportunities be there, he or she is generally motivated to be associated with the previous country.

प्रस्तावित गणतन्त्र स्तम्भको नमुना: हाल किर्तिपुरमा यस स्तम्भको निर्माण भैरहेको छ।

हाम्रो देशको पुरा नाम नै सङ्घीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नेपाल हो। अनि गणतन्त्र दिवस, राष्ट्रिय बिदा। तर यसपालिको गणतन्त्र दिवसलाई निकै महत्वका साथ हेरिँदै छ। भारतमा हिन्दुवादी भारतीय जनता पार्टीका नरेन्द्र मोदीको बिराट विजयसँगै नेपालमा पनि गणतन्त्रवादी र राजतन्त्रवादी दुवै खेमा र आम जनतामा एउटा नयाँ कोलाहल सृजना भएको छ । के साँच्चै नेपालमा गणतन्त्रको भविष्य धरापमा छ त ?

Nepal has the highest mountains on the planet, and some of the best trekking routes in the world. The natural diversity here is unbelievable, and it houses some of the most unparalleled and diverse cultural treasures. It is home to two of the major religions of the humankind, and it has their holiest shrines. Add to that one of the most hospitable civilizations. All this within a breadth of 200 kilometers, 1000 kilometers east to west. There is virtually no other spot on earth so dense with the pearls of heaven.

Still, Nepal has found it hard to develop itself as a tourism hub while other not so resourceful countries have bagged billions.

As Nepal's political transition is shamelessly lengthened and the presence of state is nearly imperceivable; we often hear some remarks, now more than ever : "Nepal laai khasma chaiyeko euta Dictator ho k! " and/ or : "Nepal laai banauna aba Jungabahadur(or even Hitler) nai chainchha! ".

These opinions arise from the same sentiment of having a powerful, efficient and incorruptible head of state who can accelerate our economy and prepare grounds for lasting peace.

पसिना बगाउ अब, रगत धेरै बगिसक्यो।

यो देशले सराप्ला, धेरै अबेला भैसक्यो।।

हरेक दिन मजदुरीको लागि बिदेसिने नेपालीहरुको भिड हेर्दा हेर्दा अब हामीलाई अचम्म लाग्न छोडिसक्यो। लागोस् पनि कसरि? लगभग हरेक घरबाट एकजना युवा काम खोजीमा विदेसिएका छन्। तर हरेक दिन जस्तो सुनिने विदेशको नारकीय जीवनका समाचार सुनीरहँदा पनि विदेश जानेहरुको लर्को नघटेको पक्ष केलाउँदा हामीलाई झट्ट के लाग्न सक्छ भने त्यसरी बिदेसिनु हाम्रा युवाहरुको बाध्यता हो। हो, सतहमा अहिले बिदेसिनु सबैभन्दा सजिलो उपाय जस्तो लाग्छ।

तर स्वतन्त्रता त्यहाँ छ, जहाँ उद्द्यमशिलता छ।

I have a question for you: "How will you describe Nepal? "

The usual answer is something like:

"Nepal is one of the most underdeveloped countries of the world, a landlocked country in one of the poorest regions of the world. Problems like unstable politics, rapid population growth are further hindering its progress."

Nepal 10 Years From Today!

Now what if we asked someone to answer the same question at a time 10 years from now? Hypothetical it is. But the answer this time would be entirely different.

Forty seven year old Ganesh Prashad Bhusal from Sandhikharka, Arghakhanchi started growing vegetables on rented land in Chitawan after he quit Journalism 11 years ago. Today he saves a whopping one and a half million Rupees every year from his Vegetables Enterprise and provides employment to other 46 persons. All by growing vegetables. Young aspirants from all over the country visit his set up to see his operations and learn from his expertise and experience.

Schools and Educational Institutions must be Zones of Peace; not the stages for the political or other fanatic experiments or bargaining.

The End of the War

Nepal faced the most bloody times in its history during the decade-long armed struggle that started in 1996. Over thirteen thousand lost their lives and millions were displaced. With the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the State and the Rebels by then Head of State Prime Minister Late Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist Supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda, our country has entered a transitional phase at which the terms of state restructuring and lasting peace are still being discussed. The State has since then entered into dialogue with numerous other armed outfits which have submitted arms as a result of various agreements and the deals that were made.

We are in a phase now where the issues of the past have still not fully been resolved and efforts are being made to move the country into a peaceful future by resolving the myriad of issues related to the armed conflict and the various movements. One constituent assembly has given birth to another and the progress has been rather tricky and slow.

२०६३ सालको बैसाख पहिलो साता सम्ममा २०६२ चैत्र बाट सुरु भएको जनआन्दोलन निर्णायक बिन्दुमा पुगिसकेको थियो । व्यवस्था परिवर्तनका लागि काठमाडौँका सडकहरुमा थुप्रैले रगत बगैसकेका थिए । जनतामा आक्रोश थियो र डर पनि! कतै येत्रो बलिदान खेर जाने त होइन? यस्तै अन्योलका १९ दिनपछि राजा ज्ञानेन्द्र नेपाल टेलिविजनमा देखा परे । जनताको शक्ति आफु बिरुद्ध खनिएको देखेपछि तत्कालिन राष्ट्र प्रमुख राजाले बाध्य भएर एउटा भाषण पढेर सुनाए र संसद पुनर्स्थापनाको घोसणा गरे । र आज २०७१ सालमा आइपुग्दा हामी आठौं लोकतन्त्र दिवस मनाइरहेका छौं ।

Prologue

Our country is on the verge of a new dawn. However slow the transition may be, the new day shall come one day. There is an enormous potential of prosperity in this country teeming with natural resources waiting to be tapped in. Add to that the advantages of being in the region of most booming economic region of Indo-China to it. There is real hope.

It is now five months since the historic Second Constituent Assembly elections of Nepal.

And as the Constituent Assembly still awaits its completion, Nepali political sphere is more polarized than ever.

देश महाशिवरात्रिको भक्ति रसमा देश लठ्ठीरहँदा हामी धेरैले ख्याल नगरेको पाटो के हो भने आजै दोश्रो संबिधान सभाका लागि भएको चुनाबको पनि एक सय दिन पुरा भएको छ।

अबको नेपाल कस्तो बनाउंदै हुनुहुन्छ हजुरहरुले? कि हामीले पनि हाम्रो बेला आए पछी आन्दोलन, बन्द-हड्ताल गरेर बस्नु पर्ने हो फेरी?

अहिलेको नेपाल

हाम्रो बारेमा संसारले कसरी सोच्दछ त? तपाई हामी जोसुकै भएपनि एउटा नेपाली भारतमा ढोके हो; खाडी मुलुक र मलेशिया र हंगकंगमा सस्तो कामदार हो। बेलायतले हाम्रो देशलाई अर्काको देशको लागि ज्यान नै दिन सक्ने मुर्ख लडाकुहरुको देश भनेर चिन्छ। मनमा कुनै संका नराखे हुन्छ हामी अहिलेसम्म यस्तै छौं, यस्तै हौँ।

किन त? यो सबै हामी गरिब भएरै भएको हो।

हाम्रो देशमा अझै सम्म राष्ट्रियताको बलियो भावनाको विकास हुन सकेकै छैन। हरेक देशवासीको मनमा आफ्नो देशप्रति अगाध माया र बलिदानीकै भावना छचल्कीरहेको भएपनि एकताबद्ध राष्ट्रिय भवनको कमि स्पष्ट खड्किन्छ। अहिलेका हामी देशलाई माया गर्नेहरुले इतिहासकै रक्तपातपूर्ण र वैमनस्यताले भरिएको कालखण्डलाई पार गरेका छौं। त्यस्तो अवस्था किन आयो भन्ने बुझ्दै नबुझी; उत्पीडनका आवाजहरुलाई अझैं पनि सानो बिखण्डनकारी झुण्डको नाटक भन्दै बुझपचाउंदै अघि बढ्न खोज्ने हो भने हामीले फेरी तिनै गल्ति गर्नेछौं; फेरी पनि त्यहि उत्पीडन र आक्रोश र प्रतिसोधको कहिल्लै उम्किन नसकिने चक्रव्यूहमा फंस्नेछौं।

Dr Govinda KC has ended his fourth fast-onto-death today after ‘credible’ reassurances were given by the government on most of his demands. On a rather chilly afternoon Dr. Govinda KC broke his fast by receiving juice from two of his students, at a ceremony attended by top bureaucratic officials, organizational heads, his colleagues, students and sympathizers.

हाम्रो जस्तो अविकसित र जटिल भूराजनैतिक अवस्थिति भएको भर्खरको प्रजातन्त्रमा नागरिकको जिम्मेवारी नेताहरुलाई चुनावमा भोट हालेर सकिंदैन: बरु आफ्नो चाँजो पाँजो मिल्यो भन्यो ढुक्कले आराम गरिरहेका र अकर्मण्यतामा रमाउने नेताहरुलाई लगातार खबरदारी गरिरहनु पनि नागरिकको दायित्व हुन्छ । देशको विकास र सार्वभौमिकताका श्रोत जनता नै हुन् ।समावेशी; शान्त र सम्वृद्ध मुलुक बनाउने हो भने जनता जाग्नै पर्छ।

As the issues surrounding the Teaching Hospital and the Institute of Medicine continued to grip the national sentiment often eclipsing the election of Sushil Koirala as the new prime-minister of Nepal; Dr. Govinda KC's fast-onto-death continues into the third day.

Resident Doctors and Health Science & Medical Students cover the 'Tribhuvan University' portion of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and replace it with a banner saying स्वायत्त(Autonomous) in a symbolic gesture over the continual erratic and irresponsible actions of the TU Authorities. In a symbolic blow to the rampant, corrupt and irresponsbible Tribhuvan University Officials; the Undergraduate Students and Resident Doctors today covered the 'Tribhuvan University' portion of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and instead renamed the Hospital 'Autonomous Teaching Hospital'(स्वायत्त शिक्षण अस्पताल).

आजभन्दा ठिक चार हप्ता अगाडी अनसन सुरु गरेका वरिष्ठ हाड जोर्नी विशेषज्ञ प्राध्यापक डाक्टर गोविन्द के. सी. ले अझैं पूर्ण स्वास्थ्यलाभ नगरीसकेको अवस्थामा आज (२०७० माघ २५ गते, शनिबार) दिउसो १ बजे पत्रकार सम्मेलन गरि शिक्षण संस्थानहरुमा राजनीतिक हस्तक्षेप र भ्रस्टाचार बिरुद्धको अभियानको चौथो आमरण अनसन सुरु गरेका छन्।

टिचिंग अस्पतालका डाक्टर गोविन्द के सी ले चिकित्सा विज्ञान पढाई हुने क्याम्पसहरुमा गुणस्तर र चरम राजनैतिक हस्तक्षेपका बिरुद्ध एउटा अलग किसिमको आन्दोलन छेडेका छन्, बन्द हड्ताल जस्ता कार्यक्रमको सहारा लिएर श्रमजीवी जनतालाई दुख दिनुभन्दा, उनले आमरण अनसन बसेर सरकारलाई चुनौती दिईरहेका छन्। अर्की शारदा भुषाल झाले पनि गा.वि.स.हरुमा हुने भ्रष्टाचार बिरुद्ध अनसन बस्दै आएकी छन्। यी दुई पात्रहरु भोलि नयाँ नेपालमा कस्तो प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था बनाउने भन्ने आन्दोलनमा आम जनताको बोलि लिएर अगाडी बढेका छन्।

Dr. Govinda K.C. Ends Fast

On Friday Dr. Govinda K.C. finally broke his 14 days long fast-onto-death after the bottom lines were fulfilled and there were highly credible evidences that there shall be no evasive wordplay of the official documents. A man was able to push back the monstrous union of the powerful mafia and the irresponsible political system that has been plaguing nearly each sector of the Nepalese society.

A decentralized system of Governmental Health System exists on paper, and even the constitution guarantees Health as a human right in Nepal. However, the realities on ground speak a different story.

हाम्रो देशमा धेरैजसो घरपरिवारको आर्थिक आयआर्जनको प्रमुख श्रोत कृषि हो। कृषि छेत्रमा हाम्रो देशको कुल जनसंख्याको ६० प्रतिशत जनशक्ति खटिएको छ र हाम्रो देश को कुल गहर्स्थ उत्पादनको ४० प्रतिशत हिस्सा कृषि र कृषिजन्य उत्पादन मार्फत प्राप्त हुन्छ।

यस अर्थमा कृषि हाम्रो देशको प्रमुख पेशा र प्रमुख उद्द्यम हो, देशको मुख्य जीवनशैली हो।

One issue which has been central to Nepal’s national pride and nationalism is the issue of her borders with the neighbours India and China. There have long been inconsistencies regarding the national border which has led to a sense of confusion and dissatisfaction amongst the citizenry.

Quality Education in Nepal is still a privilege for many despite Government and Non-governmental Sector tunneling enormous economic and bureaucratic resources into Education.

After the first version of the Constituent Assembly was doomed due to a number of factors, the second Constituent Assembly of Nepal has formally begun today. Although the strengths have shifted to the traditionally established political parties, the issues of the people remain the same.

Together we can bring Peace and Prosperity in our Nation.

The world knows, haamro deshka Netaharu have decided to launch the Constituent Assembly Part II. Well, the leaders could have easily brought out the constitution if a few more months were added to the previous Constituent Assembly as well. However, each party and nearly each leader thought otherwise.

नेपाली जनताले धेरै संघर्ष र बलिदानीबाट प्राप्त गरेको संबिधान सभाको पहिलो संस्करण विविध कारणबस भंग भयो र यो दोश्रो संबिधान सभाको आवस्यकता पर्यो । यो दौरानमा पहिलो संबिधान सभा भित्र र बाहिर राजनैतिक दलहरुका बिचमा, विभिन्न बिषय र मुद्दाका अध्येता र जानकारहरुका बिचमा, अनि आम जनतामाझ थुप्रै बहसहरु भए, थुप्रै छलफलहरु चलाइए र थुप्रै अभियानहरु संचालनमा आए। यो प्रक्रियाको अन्त्यमा संबिधान सभाको अन्त्य भएपनि त्यस दौरान हाम्रो समाज र देशमा इतिहासदेखि हालसम्मका दिनसम्म रहेका प्रवृतिहरु, तिनमा रहेका सबल पक्ष र तिनमा रहेका कमिसमजोरीहरु का बारेमा हामी शिक्षित हुने अवसर पायौं।
