In a symbolic blow to the rampant, corrupt and irresponsbible Tribhuvan University Officials; the Undergraduate Students and Resident Doctors today covered the 'Tribhuvan University' portion of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and instead renamed the Hospital 'Autonomous Teaching Hospital'(स्वायत्त शिक्षण अस्पताल).
This move comes as the latest reaction by the teaching faculty and students of the Institute of Medicine who were infuriated by the continuous blows to the sentiment of formation of a meritocratic institute.
Crisis Worsens at Institute of Medicine
The Vice Chancellor and the authorities have continuously denied the orders by the Prime Minister and the Cabinet to appoint the Dean of Institute of Medicine on the basis of seniority. Only yesterday, Executive Director of the 'then' TU Teaching Hospital Dr. Bhagwan Koirala resigned complaining lack of proper initiative by the TU Officials to honestly resolve the crisis at institute. His resignation was readily accepted and a new hospital director was appointed in a matter of few hours. The new hospital director they appointed, that too bypassing legal norms, was Dr. Ratindra Shrestha, who had already been endorsed for Legal Punishment by a Probe Committee formed 4 years ago. Too make matters more suspicious, Dr. Shrestha has been the most vocal critic of the non-violent revolution led by Prof. Dr. Govinda K.C.
Earlier today morning, students staged a sit-in in front of the Hospital Director's Office so as to ensure the tainted Dr. Shrestha doesn't take office. Later as police tried to storm clear the premises, the students shouted slogans like 'IOM is our Home, We Won't let Mafia Enter It'.
Similarly, the majority of the Heads of Departments of the Teaching Hospital signed a statement stating they 'can not accept the TU Official's decisions at this hour'.
